The ration cans are the same size, color, and style of WWII c-ration cans. The can is 3 inches in diameter, and 3 ½ inches tall. 48 cans fit inside a vintage c-ration crate.
Just like the originals, the gold-colored lacquer coating protects the metal can from oxidation. During the war, over 70 million ration cans were made. The tint of the coating varied from a light silver/gold to a deep, rich gold. The tint of my cans is a very close match to some original B units in my collection.
